Breast cancer awareness is more than a healthcare topic—it's a life-saving conversation designed to increase compassion and knowledge. On October 17, 2024, Royat Al Ebtikar International School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, worked with Al Salama Hospital and hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness session for its female staff members.

Guided by the expertise of Dr. Firas Haddad, a General and Laparoscopic Surgery Consultant from Al Salama Hospital, this event was equal parts informative, engaging, and beneficial. From breaking down the science behind breast cancer to sharing inspiring survivor stories, the session left an impression on everyone who attended.

The Power of Early Detection

Dr. Haddad began his presentation with a vital message: "Early detection saves lives." He explained how routine health checks, including self-exams and mammograms, could prevent breast cancer from advancing to critical stages. Dr. Haddad empowered female staff to take control of their health and prioritize early detection as a part of their routine care.

Unpacking Risks and Treatment Options

Navigating the details of breast cancer can feel overwhelming, but Dr. Haddad made complicated information accessible. He tackled the key risk factors, from genetics and age to lifestyle choices, helping attendees understand what elevates their risk. He then outlined various treatment options—surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—with clarity and compassion.

By emphasizing that every individual’s journey is unique, he provided a sense of hope and reassurance: medical advancements make recovery possible.

Stories That Stayed with Us

Beyond the facts and statistics, it was the real-life accounts of breast cancer survivors that deeply resonated with the audience. These emotional stories of courage and resilience brought inspiration into the room, reminding everyone that behind every diagnosis lies a story of strength and triumph.

Visuals That Educated and Engaged

What enhanced Dr. Haddad’s message was his use of compelling visuals—including anatomical diagrams, infographics, and statistical charts. These well-chosen materials ensured clarity while making the session visually engaging. For those who learn best through imagery, the presentation was memorable.

A Safe Space for Questions and Conversation

The interactive nature of the event added an invaluable layer of connection. Dr. Haddad encouraged the attendees to ask questions, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The staff felt heard, understood, and included as they discussed a topic that affects women globally, including those in the Jeddah community.

A Crucial Reminder to Prioritize Health

The Breast Cancer Awareness event at Royat Al Ebtikar International School was more than just a presentation—it was a heartfelt call to action. Everyone was reminded of the priceless value of awareness, early detection, and routine health screenings. The event was a shining example of how education meets action.
