Space Week Fun at Royat Al-Ebtikar International Primary School 🚀✨

Curiosity, innovation, and teamwork came together during World Space Week, celebrated annually from October 4–10. This is a global event that encourages students to think beyond Earth. This year’s theme “Space and Climate Change” helped students understand how the science of space and the science used on Earth are connected.  At Royat Al-Ebtikar International Primary School in Jeddah, the Sensory Room and gym were turned into cosmic playgrounds, and it sparked a love for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) among students.

The week was packed with hands-on and interactive activities that transported young learners beyond the classroom. It was a celebration that aimed to ignite students' imaginations and inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and astronauts. Spoiler alert—mission accomplished! Primary and Early Year students were empowered to think critically about space exploration and the heart of critical global issues like climate change. 🌍✨

Why Celebrate Space Week?

World Space Week isn’t just about rockets and astronauts. It also fostered awareness of how space technology impacts our daily lives. From satellite-enabled weather forecasting to advanced environmental monitoring, space exploration plays a key role in tackling global challenges in a way that was accessible to students. At Royat Al-Ebtikar, the mission was clear:

  • Highlight the importance of space technology in improving life on Earth.
  • Inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields, showcasing the innovation and excitement of space science.
  • Create a fun and memorable learning experience that fosters wonder and creativity.
Exciting Activities That Lit Up the Week

Every corner of the school burst with inspiration and excitement as students engaged in hands-on projects and experiences that made science come alive. Here's a sneak peek at some of the highlights from the week:

1. Astro Masks and Solar System Models

The week kicked off with students designing their own dazzling Astro Masks and crafting breathtaking solar system models, proudly showcasing their cosmic creations. These activities didn’t just engage their artistic talents but also deepened their understanding of planets, stars, and the vastness of space.

2. Day & Night Space Box Projects

Through hands-on activities, students explored the science behind day and night. Using flashlights, spinning globes, and cut-outs of stars and clouds, they created immersive "Space Boxes" to understand how Earth rotates and experiences light and darkness. It was a brilliant way to connect astronomy to everyday experiences.

3. Thursday’s Grand Space Celebration

The week culminated in an epic celebration where student projects were proudly displayed, transforming the school into a galactic wonderland. Teachers and fellow students marveled at the ingenuity and effort showcased in every corner.

Hands-On Adventures in Astronaut Training

No Space Week celebration would be complete without a taste of what it’s like to be an astronaut! Students braved an exciting "Astronaut Training Experience" obstacle course that brought out their agility and determination.

  • Launch Pad: With a countdown timer and rocket launch sound effects, students began their cosmic journey.
  • Asteroid Field: An obstacle course complete with hoops to jump through, cones to weave around, and tunnels to crawl through.
  • Spacewalk: A simulated spacewalk experience that tested their balance and resolve.

Cheers from classmates and teachers filled the air, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and teamwork.

The Magical Space Simulation Room

If the obstacle course wasn’t enough to thrill young explorers, the Space Simulation Room transported them to another galaxy. Walking through asteroid fields and moon rocks, students admired glowing galaxy projections while learning about planets and their unique features.

Using an Earth model and a flashlight standing in as the “sun,” students discovered how our planet’s rotation creates day and night—a simple yet profound lesson that left them in awe.

Photo Booth Fun and Certificates of Completion

To wrap up a week full of learning and adventure, students visited the Space Photo Booth, where they proudly posed with space-themed bracelets and certificates of completion. These tangible mementos marked their achievements as honorary Junior Space Explorers. Grinning from ear to ear, their excitement lit up the school, much like stars light up the night sky.

Students Loved Every Second!

By the end of Space Week, the excitement among students was palpable. Their newfound curiosity for space, combined with an understanding of its connection to pressing issues like climate change, highlighted the transformative power of learning.

From designing creative projects to navigating obstacle courses, wearing their Astro Masks, and showcasing their ingenuity, students found joy in every activity. What’s more, they took home a renewed sense of wonder and determination to keep exploring.

For our budding explorers in Jeddah, the sky isn’t the limit—it’s just the beginning!
