Learning Begins Before the Trip 🖍️📚

No one should head to a supermarket unprepared, and, before setting foot in Tamimi Supermarket, our students were challenged to do all the pre-work. The goal was to pick the perfect ingredients to create a simple, mouthwatering vegetable salad. 🥗 The students:

  • Brainstormed a shopping list: With curious discussions about food items and their uses.
  • Learned the art of teamwork: Working together to plan and prepare their mission.
  • Rehearsed their ‘shopping day’: Through play-acting in class with toy food, cash registers, and lots of giggles!
On to Tamimi Supermarket: The Real Adventure Begins! 🛒✨

On the big day, under supervision from their teachers and supermarket workers, the students  pushed tiny carts with their tinier hands – hit the supermarket aisles to learn! The sights, smells, and sounds offered endless sensory stimulation! Here’s what the Early Years explorers got up to:

  1. Paired teamwork: Partners worked together, navigating the store with their mini carts and grocery lists.
  2. Exploring sections: Guided by their teachers, the students visited different areas of Tamimi, such as the fresh produce section, dairy, bakery, butchery, and general food aisles.
  3. Hands-on learning: Students identified fruits and vegetables, bagged their chosen items, and learned to weigh produce with the clerks—skills for life! 🥕🍎
  4. Check-out excitement: At the cashier, the kids eagerly placed their chosen goodies on the counter for scanning, observing the tallying process, and receiving their packed supermarket bags.

The experience was a whirlwind of discovery as they ticked off items, asked questions, and practiced good behavior in a public space. They succeeded in their missions of purchasing all the items on their lists. The joy and pride on their faces were absolutely priceless!

Back to School: Little Chefs in Action 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

The learning didn’t stop at the supermarket! Back at school, it was time for the mini chefs to shine. Students washed the vegetables they bought. They used safe tools like plastic knives to chop, slice and prepare the food.

The excitement of creating something with their own hands was evident. Everything went into a bowl for a delicious homemade vegetable salad. Students eagerly shared and gobbled up as a healthy snack. The result? Fully satisfied bellies and a newfound appreciation for teamwork and healthy eating.  🥗💚

Why Was This Field Trip Special? 🏙️

This wasn’t just a fun excursion; it was packed with meaningful lessons for the kids! By the end of the trip, they had:

  • Learned about food and nutrition: Exploring fresh produce and healthy eating habits.
  • Practiced real-life math skills: Checking off lists, counting items, and observing transactions.
  • Honed social and communication skills: Interacting politely with store staff and peers.
  • Improved sensory awareness: Touching, smelling, and observing the variety of food offered.
  • Built a stronger sense of community: Understanding the role supermarkets and their staff play in everyday life.

Food, Friendships & Fun: A Recipe for Success

By combining hands-on learning, teamwork, and lots of laughs, this Early Years field trip was a huge success! Tamimi Supermarket turned into a real-world classroom. It reminded everyone that learning doesn’t just happen in textbooks. It takes place all around us, in supermarkets, kitchens, and beyond.
